There’s a saying that it’s better to be safe than sorry. This section is for you and your safety.

We seriously care about you and we want you to enjoy the best of Budapest has to offer without getting into trouble.

Truth be told: Pickpocketing and bag snatching are the main problems in Budapest.

Being a city with stunning architecture, amazing food, and hosting UNESCO World Heritage sites that draws a great number of tourists, pickpockets also come along.

But no need to panic and be bothered. Awareness is your first armor to being a victim. Below are simple ways to stay safe during your stay.

                                        Keep this in mind:

                                        • Do not carry large amounts of money. Better use cards instead.
                                        • Always keep an eye on your belongings.
                                        • Keep your bags on your front and your cash secured on your front pockets most especially in very crowded places.
                                        • Do not accept help from random people.
                                        • Avoid dark areas and streets with no people.
                                        • Be careful on your walks to the 8th district. This is considered as the most dangerous part of the city with the usual pickpockets and snatching cases.

Generally, hotels and travel to Budapest are safe. Even to those who are traveling solo and even to traveling females. But paying extra attention can save you from future problems.

                                        Must-Do’s in Budapest

Since we have introduced you to the best places to consider in your first-time in Budapest, let’s get you going with the things to do in the city.

Listed below are things you can do and must do during your visit.

                                        Park Güell

Since a few years, Park Güell has a restricted area and you need to prebook a ticket to enter.

Only a limited amount of visitors can enter at once. You cannot go to the entrance and buy a ticket for the next turn. It is highly unlikely that there is a spot opne. Therefore, prebook your ticket before online for a specific time window.

Insider Tip: 20 minutes right before the whole park closes, the main area of Park Güell is “open for public”. And many many people grab this opportunity. So if you’re just “passing by”, this is the perfect chance to get it.

However, I would not recommend doing this at all. There are way too many people and you have very limited time left to enjoy this magnificent area.

                                        Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia (“The Basilica of the Holy Family”) is one the famous works of Antonio Gaudí which were recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The giant basilica is over 137 years old and is still under the process of construction as of today. Making it the longest-running active building project on Earth.

Since it is really famous worldwide, it usually has long queues. During the summer, you can wait up to 2 hours in the sun. And that’s not fun.

Entering the basilica is free but you can actually enter the towers of Sagrada Familia as well.

Insider Tip: The towers cost extra and are limited to a certain number of visitors per day – for obvious reasons. And tickets are sold out easily and fast. Therefore, check your days as soon as you have your travel dates fix and book your entrance ticket along with a visit of a tower.

                                        Las Rambla (or Las Ramblas)

Las Rambla is one of the most famous streets in Barcelona that should not miss your itinerary.

It starts with Plaça Catalunya (Catalonia Square) and stretches to many popular destinations in the city all the way to the statue of Christopher Columbus.

And walking through Las Rambla will take you between the Gothic Quarter and El Raval. A few blocks more and you’ll be able to reach the Barcelona Cathedral and Plaça Sant Jaume.

Including Las Rambla in your tour will give chances of tasting Barcelona food and local products and experiencing the city’s market life of La Boqueria market. Walk in here, get lost and get a smoothie or fruit bowl; yum!

Insider Tip: Since Las Ramblas is one of the iconic street markets in BCN, it attracts its fair share of pickpockets. So be alert and extra careful.

                                        The Beaches

One of the many things Barcelona is known for is its beaches.

Stretching 9 km (5 miles) across the Mediterranean Sea is the beautiful beaches of the city. And with Barcelona’s 300 days of sunny skies, without a doubt, you will have a wonderful time at the beach.

There’s a whole lot to do in this area of the city. Grab some amazing seafood along the shore or get refreshed from the ice cream and juice stands, sunbathe on one of the nude beaches or join water sports.

Whatever that excites you will surely have an answer from the Barcelona beaches.

                                        La Boqueria Market

The first market to open in Barcelona in 1986 is La Boqueria Market.

This is one of the parts of Barcelona where you can find the good stuff. You can practically find almost everything here.

It’s a fully functioning world of food with more than 200 traders that invites both tourists and locals. You can basically find all varieties of food under one roof.

And it would be best that you come in the morning so there wouldn’t be much of a crowd. You can do food tasting on your way or you can also have a delightful lunch before you leave.

Passeig de Gracia – Casa Batllo and Casa Mila

If there’s a place a shopaholic would wish to be in, it would be Passeig de Gracia.

This is Barcelona’s biggest shopping district and one of the most beautiful and expensive avenues in the city.

From the most expensive brands and exclusive shops to affordable products, I’m sure you will not go home empty-handed. Everyone will certainly have a treasure to take home.

Also in this area, you will witness amazing architectural designs where design lovers wouldn’t want to miss.

These include Casa Batllo and Casa Mila which are both amazing masterpieces of Antoni Gaudí that tourists come to see.

Casa Batllo’s outside design depicts an image of skull and bones. While the unique details of the interior is another whole story for the tourists to see.

Casa Mila, on the other hand, is the last and largest civic architectural work of Gaudi. Aside from the amazing view from the rooftop, it is also home to Gaudi’s Museum.

Even more, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
