Looking to disconnect in total privacy? Mozumo is an adults-only ryokan hidden in the mountains of Gifu, about an hour from Takayama. It’s remote, quiet, and built for full relaxation. Every suite includes a private outdoor onsen bath with real hot spring water. Expect tatami floors, minimalist design, and huge windows that bring the forest right into your room.

In the rooms you get a sleeping area, living space, and a spacious private bathroom. The highlight? Sliding glass doors that let you soak in the onsen while breathing mountain air, even in winter.

Full ryokan meals are available (extra cost), with traditional Japanese dishes like hoba miso and seasonal sukiyaki. The staff speaks English and will walk you through every detail. There’s also free private parking.
