Kotonoyado Musashino

Total number of rooms: 19 | Prices start from 443.4 US$

Waking up inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site is not something you get every day. But at Kotonoyado Musashino, it’s part of the experience. Located just steps from Kasuga Taisha Shrine and a short walk from Mount Wakakusa, this boutique ryokan mixes traditional Japanese hospitality with a setting that’s nothing short of legendary. And it does it well!

The vibe here is classic and calm. Rooms come with tatami flooring, sliding doors, and traditional yukata robes you can wear throughout your stay. While bathrooms are shared in some room types, everything is spotless, comfortable, and well-maintained.

There’s an onsen, it’s gender-separated. Hot, peaceful, and usually uncrowded.

Meals are served in-room and follow the kaiseki format: multiple beautifully arranged dishes that highlight local ingredients and seasonal specialties. Portions can be large, but you can always ask for smaller ones. If you’re open to trying new flavors and textures, dinner and breakfast here are worth the trip alone.

Staff go above and beyond, though most rely on translator apps. Be patient, smile, and you’ll feel genuinely cared for.

Good to know: Guests get free access to a private hillside where you can enjoy your bento breakfast with a view, picnic mat included.
