Forget everything you know about hotel design. Dasein Youlan Hotel in Beijing is truly a work of art. The hotel is a transformed 1970s factory. The chief designer of the Water Cube, Zhao Xiaojun, led this project. He created a stunning modern-Chinese style retreat. The result? A bold, elegant space that feels both industrial and serene.
Each of its 31 rooms carries a unique theme inspired by ancient orchid poems. Rooms also boast refined details such as under-floor heating, tea sets, volcanic rock baths, and even private hot spring pools in select rooms. The design emphasizes subtle luxury. Intricately carved woodwork, Chinese furnishings, and a serene courtyard reflect timeless Eastern aesthetics.
The staff deserves a mention too—they are incredible and attentive, from folding garments with care to delivering fresh milk daily without being asked. Breakfast elevates the experience even further: colorful, abundant, and thoughtfully plated, it delights both the eyes and palate.
Good to know: The hotel doesn’t just showcase orchids in its decor—it integrates them into its philosophy. Orchids symbolize refinement and inner peace in Chinese culture.
